I'm Walter (Gerry) Runte and I am running for reelection to the State House in District 146.
I am running for State Representative because I believe I am uniquely positioned to advocate for our district's diverse needs. Covering rural and central York, Ogunquit, and much of Wells—all vibrant seacoast communities—our region's natural environment and resources are vital to our quality of life and tourism. That's why I prioritize environmental protection and climate action.
With a background in a career Army family and service in the Army myself, I've also worked in the electric utility industry and clean energy sector, both domestically and internationally. Eight years ago, my wife and I chose to settle in York, drawn by its charm and community spirit. Since then, I've been actively involved in various town committees, including the Energy Steering Committee, Planning Board, and Climate Action Plan Steering Committee.
Throughout my career, I've been passionate about innovative energy solutions and environmental stewardship. From advising start-up companies on clean energy technologies to leading organizations focused on gas research and biofuel development, I've demonstrated a commitment to forward-thinking leadership.
My education—an undergraduate degree in science, a master's in Nuclear Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, and a graduate certificate in Community Planning and Sustainable Development from the University of Southern Maine—has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to address the complex challenges facing our district.
In every role, I've emphasized collaboration and coalition-building, working with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to achieve common goals. Interacting with legislators at the federal and state levels has been integral to my work, and I understand the importance of effective advocacy and diplomacy in achieving meaningful change.
As your State Representative, I will continue to be a voice for our district, advocating for policies that promote sustainability, economic growth, and community resilience. Together, we can build a brighter future for our region and generations to come."
